Attention: Community Event This Week on Hate
I just learned via email that a community event is scheduled to take place this week co-sponsored by the Anti Defamation League and at Congregation Shir Ha Maa lot. The Wednesday evening program is titled, “Autobiography of a recovering Skinhead” and features Frank Meeinks telling of his descent into Americas Nazi under-ground and his ultimate triumph over hatred and addiction.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 19 starting at 7:00 p.m. at Congregation Shir Ha Ma A Lot in Irvine. Franks violent childhood in South Philadelphia primed him to hate. He made easy prey for a small group of skinhead gang recruiters led by his older cousin. At fourteen, he shaved his head. By sixteen, Frank was one of the most notorious skinhead gang leaders on the East Coast. By 18, he was doing hard time in an Illinois prison. Behind bars, Frank began to question his hatred, thanks in large part to his African-American teammates on a prison football league. Shortly after being paroled, Frank defected from the white supremacy movement.
Here is a preview from a YouTube video which includes part of a Katie Couric interview she conducted with Frank. “Hard Copy” is also spliced into the segment. The interview with Couric, according to the YouTube video, took place in January, 2010.
