Chuck DeVore Wants Ban On Muslim Student Union from UC Irvine
KPCC Radio this evening is reporting that Assemblyman Chuck DeVore has sent a letter to UC Irvine chancellor Michael Drake asking him to ban the Muslim Student Union from campus following the arrest of 11 MSU members who disrupted a campus speech by Israeli ambassador Michael Oren to the United States.
According to the full story, which you can read here, DeVore accused the Muslim Student Union of “passing the hat” for Hamas at a fundraiser for the “terrorist organization” last year.
The story goes on to summarize a conversation with UCI spokesperson Cathy Lawhon who said the university’s response to DeVore’s letter is that UCI officials are considering the allegations against the 11 students and the Muslim Student Union. The students and organization face a range of discipline from a warning to expulsion, but it is not known when officials will decide on punishment, Lawhon added.
It is also not known at this time how long the investigation will take or when a judgement will be announced.
The KPCC Wire Service ran this story at 8:11 p.m. on Thursday evening.
